In Tribute - Peter Waldheim (1940- 2021)
Gran Fondo Texas route
We are deeply and profoundly saddened at the passing of our friend Peter Waldheim

Many of us knew Peter as an exceptional cyclist who had a passion for “getting on the road”.  He was the first rider in the first MS150.  On more than one occasion, he rode the route from Houston to Austin on Saturday and then rode back on Sunday.

We at Gran Fondo Texas honored Peter by designating him our Honorary Grand Marshal in 2018. It was a fitting tribute to someone who had epitomized cycling devotion and fundraising.

Peter was an outstanding fundraiser for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.  In the early days of the MS150, he led all riders in fundraising. In those days, the major fundraiser was rewarded by the National MS Society with a significant trip. Peter, being Peter, declined the reward stating “It is more important to use that money to find a cure for MS than to spend it on me”. At the time, there were only 2 or 3 drugs to treat MS.  Today, there are over 25.

In keeping with Peter's interest to see progress in the fight against Multiple Sclerosis, his family has set up a donation page to collect contributions in his memory.  Click Here to make a donation.

We will miss his energy, bright spirit, and enthusiasm for life.  He made an impact on everyone with whom he interacted.  The world is a better place because of Peter Waldheim.
